Warning! If your eyes glaze over when the subject turns deep or you just don't like watching "Mythbusters" to prove how stuff works, turn back now and return to your world of perception.
I was looking at my own blog today and noticed the below ad and thought "Huh" (without the question mark - not so much a "Huh?" but more of a statement of fact - like "Huh")
"So what?" you're thinking to yourself, "You're using AdSense like everyone else" you're saying to yourself.
Yeah. That's what I thought (to myself) - but then I looked a little closer....
So here's the first part of the code that generates the ad ...
<div id="google_ads_div_SellingNetworks-300x250">
<script type="text/javascript"></script><script src=http://ad.afy11.net/srad.js?azId=4722907 .... </script><script src="http://ad.afy11.net/ad?asId=4722907&sd=2x300x250&ct=15&enc=1&sf=0&sfd=0&ynw=0&anw=1&rand=44482197&rk1=46868630&rk2=1232033881.732&pt=0"></script><script src="http://ad.yieldmanager.com/st?ad_type=ad&ad_size=300x250§ion=443737" type="text/javascript">
I'm using the Google AdServer and I rotate a couple of different networks in my advertising. So the first call is to the Adify ad server which SixApart is using (disclosure I love SixApart, they are great people and by extension, I like the Adify people too) and I'm part of the SixApart network. That makes sense.
Then, Adify calls "YieldManager" which is the adserver behind Yahoo's Right Media Exchange - so now I'm (well, not me - the virtual me metaphor that is acting as the ad impression on my blog) floating around on the exhange waiting for an advertiser to pick me up.
And here's what I find (or finds the metaphorical ad-impression me)
<script src="http://ad2.turn.com/server/ad_call.js" type="text/javascript"> </script><html><body style="background-color: transparent;"><script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script src="http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/test_domain.js"></script><iframe height="250" frameborder="0" width="300" scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true" hspace="0" vspace="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub 2237930296469909&....
I find that I get picked up by the Turn - which I'm sure is a fine network, which turns (pun) my ad impression (or the metaphorical me we've recently become acquainted with within my parathentical comments) over to AdSense - which ends up advertising a Google service.
Btw, I'm betting that Turn's Adsense account number is "2237930296469909".
Whew! So, remember my previous post? Just another example.
